First Presbyterian is currently seeking a pastor. In the meantime, Karen Copple is our temporary pulpit supply.
Karen is a native of Michigan, Karen moved to Nebraska for college and graduated with a bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Hastings College, a small Presbyterian, Liberal Arts College. She married her husband, Tom along with his two children, Regan and Gretchen, in 1972. Tom and Karen were both Music teachers when Karen decided to return to school and obtained a Master’s degree in Speech Pathology. Karen and Tom had two children, Andrew and Matthew, and moved to Lubbock in 1986 to provide a drier climate for son Andrew. Tom taught elementary music for Lubbock ISD and Karen worked there as a Speech Pathologist until taking early retirement in 2012. In 2011, after completing a Doctoral Degree from TTUHSC, she taught at Eastern New Mexico University in the Communication Disorders Department. She also began an online degree for a certificate as commissioned pastor from Austin Seminary. At a very young age, Karen felt the push to be a teacher of the word especially to her captivated, younger cousins. She has been a frequent supply pastor at her own church in Lubbock, Lamesa, Snyder, and Colardo City. She is pleased to be called to be part of Plainview First Pres. working with the Session and Congregation to find the new pastor God has chosen for them.
